Overview
Magome to Tsumago — a graceful full-day Nakasendo walk.
Approximately 8 km, with about 200 m of ascent and 400 m of descent, usually walked at a relaxed pace of around four hours.
The route offers a balanced experience of preserved Edo-period streetscapes, woodland paths, old stone paving, waterfalls, and quiet village scenery.
The walk is moderate rather than technical. It includes uphill and downhill sections, and the pace can be adjusted according to the season, weather, and your preferred travel style.

Travel between Nakatsugawa and Magome, and between Tsumago and Nagiso, is generally assumed to be by taxi. As this is a rural area, taxi travel allows you to use your time more effectively. The fare is approximately ¥4,000 and ¥2,000 respectively. Bus travel can also be arranged.
